Snowflake by Kevin Hawkes, reproduced here with permission of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Tomorrow, the children's literature blogging world will begin featuring the illustrators who are participating in this year's Robert's Snow: For Cancer's Cure fundraiser.

Begun in 2004 by author/illustrator Grace Lin when her husband was diagnosed with cancer, this wonderful program has raised more than $200,000 for cancer research.

This past August, Grace's husband, Robert, lost his battle with bone cancer, and the children's literature community would like to make this year's snowflake sales extra-special in Grace's and Robert's honor. So starting tomorrow, please enjoy the features with the participating illustrators, view the beautiful snowflakes (and bid on them or make a donation, if you can), and hold your loved ones tight.

Monday, October 15

  • Randy Cecil at ChatRabbit

  • Michelle Chang at The Longstockings

  • Kevin Hawkes at Cynthia Lord's Journal  (Right HERE!  Kevin gave me an amazing, funny, and inspiring interview--I guarantee you're going to love it.  And I'll have a contest for a signed copy of Kevin's book, THE WICKED BIG TODDLAH, tomorrow, too!)

I'd like to see Milo in a snowflake. He's so cute he'd be the star of the show.

He'd make a cute snowflake. . .all white with just black eyes and nose :-)

And those eager, little puppy teeth! I think every conversation with him has the words, "no biting!" in it somewhere!

I have purchased MANY snowflakes and given them as special gifts. I do it in part because I lost bothmy daughter and mother to cancer a few years ago. I have presented snowflakes to family and friends with a note that tells them about the origin of the auction, I plan to try to get a few more this year, too. Thanks for supporting this worthwhile event.

That's such a beautiful way to honor your daughter and mother.

I've bid on snowflakes before, but never won. So I was really glad to have the chance to participate in this way.

Now I want to run around saying, "Land 'o Goshen!" I'm going to find a way to work the phrase into conversation immediately.
What fun to see someone so encouraged from the time he was a wicked big toddlah until now, when he encourages and inspires the rest of us. Thanks for a great post!
